50 Faces of Volunteers – Larry Akin

Nominated by Lisa Bragg, Iowa City Animal Care and Adoption Center, Iowa City

Tell us a little about the volunteer:

Larry is retired and has been volunteering at the animal center for over 10 years. He will have over 500 volunteer hours for 2016 alone. He resides in Coralville and makes the drive to volunteer at least 4 times a week. Larry loves volunteering because he likes to help the animals find new homes and volunteering has made him a better person. Being able to give back to the community is a plus. Larry enjoys working with the shelters adoptable cats and small animals. He loves to talk to our customers about joining the volunteer team and is a great recruiter.

What is the primary (one or two) organization(s) they serve? Iowa

City Animal Care and Adoption Center for 10 years!

Why does this volunteer deserve to be recognized with a 50 Faces of Volunteers spotlight? He has almost 2,500 life time volunteer hours and is a regular here at the center.
